Garage roof falls on 10 cars

Oops: The bucket of a backhoe which accidentally hit this garage caused its roof to collapse on the cars parked at the Permint Jaya Industrial estate in Chendering Wednesday.

KUALA TERENGGANU: Ten cars were damaged when the roof of a garage at a construction site office collapsed on them.

The vehicles belonged to staff of the construction company, Q Bena Resources Sdn Bhd, that was located at the Permint Jaya Industrial estate in Chendering.

In the 10am incident, a 12m-long roof with a width of about 5m, collapsed when it was accidentally hit by the bucket of a backhoe. The driver, Jamili Harun, 40, was placing a new fencing at the site.

The impact of the falling debris shattered the windscreens and dented the roofs of the vehicles.

District Traffic Chief Asst Supt Mohd Faudzi Mohamad said no injuries were reported, adding that the vehicle owners lodged police reports shortly after the incident.

He said Jamili claimed that the rear bucket of his machine accidentally hit the structure of the garage.

ASP Mohd Faudzi said police classified the incident as negligence. The car owners can seek compensation from their insurance companies.
