Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will not be reopening the Jalan
Datuk Sulaiman 1 in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) to Kampung Sungai Penchala insisting that building an alternative access route will be the best solution to the conflict between the residents of the two housing estates.
The access road was closed using cement barriers by DBKL after residents of Jalan Datuk Sulaiman 1 protested against the use of their residential road several months ago by a developer.
However, Kampung Sungai Penchala residents protested against the closure of the access as well as the proposal to build the new access.
They are asking DBKL to reopen the access road from Jalan Datuk Sulaiman 1 to Kampung Sungai Penchala. The residents said the new access route would cause eight plots of Malay reserved land in Kampung Sungai Penchala to be acquired by DBKL.
Kuala Lumpur mayor Tan Sri Ahmad Fuad Ismail said if there was still any dispute about DBKL acquiring the land in Kampung Sungai Penchala, it would have to be settled in court.
“When overall benefit comes into the picture, the government has the right to acquire the land for development,” he told reporters.
“We have also asked the Land and Mines Department if we could replace their land with a vacant plot in the area,” he added.
Fuad said the land acquisition for the project would cost almost RM3mil and another RM3mil to build the road.
He said they would not reopen the current access route because it was not built for that purpose.
“If we reopen the current access it would cause TTDI residents to be uneasy.
“We have already briefed the minister and he has agreed to DBKL’s proposal,” he said.
Fuad said the new route would enable the residents of Kampung Sungai Penchala to access the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) through Jalan Datuk Sulaiman without having to enter the housing area of Jalan Datuk Sulaiman 1.
He said the work on the new route was expected to start in October and completed by March next year.
