Provide proper services, MPS told

THE Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) has failed to provide proper services for the residents in Batu Arang, Rawang, Kampung Batu Arang Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) chairman Rusli Mohd Sharif said.

He said there were not enough streetlights while the grass was not cut and drains not cleaned.

“As we pay assessment, we hope the council will ensure that these simple jobs are done. These services provided by the council are not up to expectations,” he said.

Rusli also said they wanted more streetlights.

“Many of the roads are dark and some of the existing streetlights are not working, resulting in many accidents in this small village.

“After the March 2008 election, the residents were promised that about 30 streetlights would be put up by the council but we are still waiting,” he said, adding that councillor Samsudin Abdul Rahman, who is in charge of the area, had informed them that the council had limited funds and was thus unable to deliver on the promise.

Rusli said although the crime rate was low the lack of streetlights made it scary for residents returning home at night.

He added that the grass had not been cut by the contractors and there was tall grass even in front of houses.

“We understand that five workers cut the grass throughout Batu Arang while only two workers clean the drains, so there are just not enough workers to do the job,” he said, adding that there were about 5,000 people in the village.

However, Rusli said, when Defence Minister Zahid Hamidi visited the area about four months ago, workers cleaned the drains and cut the grass.

However, he said he had not lodged any complaint with the council so far.

Rusli also complained that there were only 20 huge dustbins in this area.

Another resident, Abdul Rahman Mat Arip, 57, said he had had to cut the grass in front of his house in Kampung Melayu Tambahan himself, after no action was taken although he had told Samsudin and the contractor about the problem.

He added that fallen trees and electric cables were not removed and posed a danger to children walking to school and motorists along the road.
