Private car park operator to lower cost to match MPSJ’s rate

Congested: The traffic congestion in Taipan is largely caused by motorists who double-park.

THE operator of the private multi-storey car park in USJ 10 (Taipan) will bring down the cost of its monthly pass from RM105 to RM80.

Following negotiations initiated by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ), Systematic Corporate Parking Sdn Bhd has agreed to lower the price to match that of the council’s monthly pass.

This was done to complement the one-hour only restriction on parking in the area, which was implemented on Jan 1.

Motorists who wish to park for more than one hour have to make payment again when the time is up.

When the plan was announced, the MPSJ received a lot of feedback from the people.

MPSJ president Adnan Md Ikshan said the move was an effort to curb traffic congestion in the area, which was largely caused by drivers who double-parked.

“We have enough parking space — almost half of the private car park is empty — but the people insist on parking right in front of the premises they visit.

“Also, the shop owners and workers take up a lot of the 1,100 parking bays, making it difficult for visitors to find an empty lot,” he said.

Adnan urged the shop owners and workers to buy the monthly pass from the council or Systematic Corporate Parking.

“If they park in the multi-storey car park, the other parking lots in the area can be used by the visitors.

“When it’s no longer a headache to come into Taipan, the place will attract more visitors and their businesses will flourish,” he said.

On concerns regarding the safety of the multi-storey car park, Systematic Corporate Parking CEO Thomas Ng assured the public that the building was equipped with 32 CCTV cameras.

“We repainted the building about three months ago and next, we will be looking into installing more lights,” he said.

The five-storey car park has 900 lots, of which only about 400 were taken up by motorists with season parking passes.

On weekdays, the hourly rate is RM2 for the first hour and RM1 for every subsequent hour.

A fee of RM2 per entry is applicable on Sundays and public holidays, as well as after 6.01pm on weekdays and 3.01pm on Saturdays.

Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh said the trial period for the one-hour-only parking restriction was from January to March.

The council will then gauge the effectiveness of the measure, and if it successfully reduces the traffic congestion, it will be implemented in other areas.

The public is welcome to send their views on this issue through the MPSJ website at http://www.mpsj.gov.my/.
