Minister wants thorough investigation into incident at Taman Cuepacs

Ugly sight: A few cracks on the wall of one of the houses in Taman Cuepacs.

THE Government will take full responsibility if investigations reveal that the minor sinking affecting a few houses at Taman Cuepacs in Segambut was due to negligence on the part of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said the Public Works Institute of Malaysia (Ikram) has been ordered to investigate the matter and a full report on the incident would be ready in three months.

“I’ve been informed that Ikram has installed three soil movement sensors in the area.

“While we wait for the results of their investigations, DBKL and Ikram will continue to monitor the situation,” he said after visiting the affected residents yesterday.

“And if there is a need to relocate the residents, we won’t hesitate to do so,” he said.

Raja Nong Chik also presented financial aid of RM1,000 each contributed by DBKL, the Kuala Lumpur Foundation and the Segambut Umno branch to seven of the affected homeowners.

He added that the residents have also been offered low-cost housing at the PPR Intan Baiduri in Kepong as a temporary measure.

“Upon the residents’ request, DBKL will also assist the victims by negotiating with financial institutions to defer their housing loans.”

One of the residents C. Thanaletchumi, 38, said she first saw cracks appearing on the walls of her house last month.

She added that the cracks grew bigger after two weeks of continuous rain.

Thanaletchumi said she bought her home for RM500,000 and noticed that something was not right with the area’s drainage system which resulted in water accumulation, thus causing the sink-in. – Bernama
