CM’s aide: There’s no such thing
The state government has rubbished claims by Penang Gerakan that the developer of the proposed RM300mil subterranean Penang International Convention and Exhibition (sPICE) Centre would be allowed to build an additional 1,500 houses in various projects that it undertakes in Penang.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s political secretary, Ng Wei Aik, said there was no such clause included by Eco Meridian Sdn Bhd in its proposal to undertake the project.
“I have checked with the Penang Municipal Council on this and was told that no such clause existed.
“I do not know how Penang Gerakan came up with this story,” he said outside the state assembly yesterday.
Ng said the party should name the housing projects which it claimed that the state had allowed the developer to build and when they were approved.
Earlier, Penang Gerakan Local Government Bureau chairman Teh Leong Meng told a press conference outside the assembly that one of the conditions made by the project developer was for the state to allow it to build an additional 1,500 units of houses, above the maximum permissible density, in any projects proposed by the company.
On why only three companies submitted proposals, Ng said he did not know why more companies did not submit proposals to bid for the project.
