Narrow escape for trio when neighbour’s wall collapses
KLANG: A housewife and her two teenaged children cheated death after a neighbour’s new concrete wall came crashing down onto their single-storey house in Taman Seri Andalas here while they were watching TV.
Kamariah Abdullah and her children Norfadilah Mohd Zain, 19, and Norhidayah, 18, narrowly escaped being crushed by falling bricks but sustained minor bruises after being hit by loose mortar.
The neighbour is in the midst of renovating his single-storey house into a double-storey structure.
Kamariah’s husband Mohd Zain Ismail, 53, said his family was watching television in the living room of their 23-year-old home when the incident occurred.
“My wife was about to take a short nap on the couch when the neighbour’s wall gave way onto our roof and crashed into the living room,” he said.
“I took them to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital for a medical examination. I thank God that there has been no tragedy,” he said.
Mohd Zain said his neighbour, who is currently in Batam, Indonesia, had engaged a contractor to renovate his original single-storey home into a double-storey structure.
“Now, the roof of my house is damaged, including the furniture. Apart from wrecking my two laptops and a handphone, the flooring of my house is gone,” he said, adding that his family would have to stay in a hotel for now.
