Sabah appeals for coastal road project in the 10MP
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is appealing to the Federal Government to include 17km coastal road project which will help overcome the congestion in the Putatan area under the 10th Malaysia Plan.
The RM250mil coastal road planned between Tanjung Aru and Kinarut is essential as an alternative route to overcome severe traffic congestion along the Putatan-Kota Kinabalu road , the southern gateway to the city.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Yahya Hussin said the Putatan road was now the gateway for people from Lawas (Sarawak), Brunei, Sipitang, Beaufort and also interior Keningau and east coast Tawau to the city.
“The road has become congested and our concern is that the Putatan road will soon become too congested with the development coming into the area.
“We hope the Federal Government will consider including the coastal road in the 10MP as it will divert traffic away from the Putatan area,” he added.
Yahya said the congestion along the Putatan-Kota Kinabalu road could be seen not only during office hours but also during normal hours on weekends and holidays.
