New bridge for Sungai Kenau
KUANTAN: The daily woes of some 900 villagers living along Sungai Lembing will be alleviated with the building of a new bridge across Sungai Kenau under the 10th Malaysia Plan.
Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah Sultan Abu Bakar who checked the condition of the current bridge on Monday, said he would ensure the new bridge was built as soon as possible.
This low-lying bridge that links residents to other parts in the area is usually submerged during floods.
Heavy vehicles using the bridge frequently had damaged it in 2005 and 2008.
Sultan Ahmad Shah said a higher and wider concrete bridge had to be built to replace the current structure.
He said the new bridge estimated to cost RM20mil would be 4km long and have two lanes to accommodate traffic flow to and from the villages in the area.
The Sultan said that two other bridges would be built in Kampung Kawah and Jeram Takar near the Kuala Kenau bridge.
When the bridges are completed, residents will have easy access to and from their villages even during high tide.
Sultan Ahmad Shah said the bridges would enable farmers in the area to sell their produce at nearby townships.
The Sultan was accompanied by State Public Amenities Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Soffi Abdul Razak, Paya Besar MP Datuk Abdul Manan Ismail, State Secretary Datuk Mohamad Safian Ismail and other heads of departments.
