Perkasa members cause a stir with ‘gift’ for CM
GEORGE TOWN: A group of 15 Perkasa members created a scene at Komtar when they were prevented from presenting a gift, comprising a replica of a house and a bulldozer, to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
The group, led by its Penang chief Mohd Rizuad Mohd Azudin, was prevented from entering the Komtar Level Three entrance that leads to the lifts going up to the state government’s offices.
The group then sat on the floor for 20 minutes, together with their gift, as an act of protest in the 3pm incident yesterday.
An exchange of words then took place between the group, police special branch officers and security guards before the group agreed to disperse at about 3.30pm. They left the gift at the guard counter.
Mohd Rizuad said the gift was a symbol of what he claimed was Lim’s “tyrant administration” in demolishing a motor repair shop belonging to a Perkasa member in Jelutong one year ago.
Also present was shop owner Mohd Yacoob Mohd Noor, 23, who claimed he had been jobless following the demolition by the Penang Municipal Council on Jan 11 last year.
He accused the council of demolishing his workshop without notice.
“I wrote to the council shortly after the demolition demanding an explanation why the workshop was torn down but there has been no reply,” he said, adding that he had a licence from the council to run the workshop which was located on private land.
Council president Patahiyah Ismail could not be reached for comment.
