Repairs first: The residents want various defects rectified before the painting work are carried out.

ALL they wanted was for a chance to meet the members of their Join Management Committee but the residents of Sri Putramas Condominium were constantly ignored of the opportunity.
The residents of the condominium, located off Jalan Kuching, Kuala Lumpur, had been sending e-mails and letters to committee members as they wanted to know the status of rectification and painting work to their condominium.
Work had started last month to give the six-year-old building a fresh coat of paint but some of the residents were not happy as they felt that cracks and leaks should be addressed first.
“We feel that the JMC should not paint the building if the defects are not rectified,” Allan Ananth said.
The defects include leaking pipes, fungus growing on the pipes and cracks around the five-block condominium.
According to Allan, who represented the group, the management office and the painting contractor held a meeting on Dec 12 to brief residents on the painting work, but none of the JMC members were present.
The meeting, he said, did not solve the many outstanding issues related to the painting work and the residents present decided that the work should be stopped until rectification work was completed.
However, the residents did not receive any feedback from the JMC members which led them to submit a petition on Dec 30 with 100 signatures of owners to the committee.
“They are also residents. We do not understand why they do not want to listen to us and, at least, meet up with us to solve the problem,” Gurmit Singh said.
Gurmit felt that the JMC’s way of avoiding them showed that they did not respect the needs of the residents there.
Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, who was present at the meeting, said the issue was the first involving residents and JMC members that he had came across.
“Usually, residents face problems of wanting to form a JMC, but here we have a JMC that does not want to meet the residents when they are elected by the residents,” said Lim who visited the area recently.
Lim said he would hold a meeting next week with the JMC members, the management office as well as the group of residents opposing to the painting work to come up with a solution that would benefit everyone.
