Private funding for new dumpsite
ONE of Perak’s new dumpsites, to be located on a 211ha former mining pond in Papan, will be built using private funding.
Ipoh Datuk Bandar Datuk Roshidi Hashim said the Ipoh City Council had identified several companies for that purpose.
“The companies have submitted their proposals and the council’s privatisation committee is looking into it,” he said.
He said the successful company would provide the technological know-how to operate the dumpsite.
“It will be similar to the one being operated at Semenyih in Selangor,” Roshidi added.
He said that once everything was confirmed, the council would submit the proposal to the state for endorsement.
The council hopes to start preparatory work on the site this year.
Speaking to reporters after chairing the council’s last full board meeting for 2009 on Thursday, Roshidi said that an Environ-mental Impact Assessment study would be conducted on the site before the dumpsite begins operation.
On the life span of the city’s present dumpsite in Bercham, Roshidi said it could last up to 2013.
“We have ample time to prepare the new site,” he added.
It was earlier reported that the new dumpsite would be used by the Ipoh City Council and the south Kinta, west Kinta and central Perak district councils.
