Sarawak to spend RM100m annually on industrial parks

KUCHING: Sarawak will spend RM100mil a year under the 10th Malaysia Plan to develop more industrial estates.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam said there was not enough industrial land here to cater to the needs of investors.

The Demak Laut Industrial Park and Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone that cater to hi-tech industries are the two major industrial parks here built by the state government.

Dr Chan, who is State Industrial Development Minister, asked small-and-medium industries (SMIs) and other investors to contact the ministry if they had problems getting industrial land.

An official from the Bintulu Chinese Chamber of Commerce had earlier during a business promotion and investment forum claimed that it was difficult for SMIs to get industrial land for their business activities.

The official also claimed that the government had not replied to some of the applications for industrial land submitted years ago.

“Big industries need the support of SMIs,’’ he said.
