Festive Chinese New Year home decorations

It’s a double celebration come Feb 14 as Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day fall on the same date this year! It’s time to usher in fook (good fortune) and love into our homes this festive season and what better way to do that than to deck the halls with auspicious gold and brilliant red.

Here are some home décor ideas as we usher in the Year of the Tiger, as well as celebrate love and affection.

Illumination

Let’s begin with something for the home exterior: lanterns! This décor item greets your visitors before you do! Try the unconventional yet trendy lanterns this year as it not only catches the attention of your guests, but also of passersby as well.

Mini and regular-sized lanterns (RM12.90 – RM79.90) @ Living Quarters, Metrojaya

For arts sake!

Another great gift / décor item is the Chinese artwork. Aged frames, Chinese paintings, authentic Nyonya antique and a poetic sense of colour are hallmarks to create an Oriental touch in this festive season.

Blooms and vases

Jazz up your living area with these stunning vases. Instead of the classic blue and white porcelain vases, make your room pop with colour this CNY with bold coloured vases.

Table talk

The (dining) table brings people together. After all, family and friends typically gather around it for the reunion dinner, as well as to share stories, anecdotes and gossip. Here are some ideas to dress up the table for the festivities.
