A CRIME-fighting campaign will be launched between February and March to combat the increasing crime rate in Kelana Jaya, Seri Setia assemblyman Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said at a Chinese New Year open house last Saturday.
“We will be collaborating with the police to handle this serious problem of crime. We will also have meetings at the town hall with residents to discuss issues on crime,” he said.
He added that the “Save Kelana Jaya Park” campaign had borne fruitful results as the park had now been handed over to the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).
“PKNS initially wanted to develop the land but residents were against it. PKNS then wanted to sell the land for RM7mil but MBPJ could not afford it. After discussions, the state government decided that the park be handed over to MBPJ and the transfer is still being processed,” he said.
Organised by the Kelana Jaya PKR, the Chinese New Year open house held at the Taman Subang Indah playground in Jalan PJS10/5 attracted over 500 guests who were greeted with a lion dance performance.
Nik Nazmi also said they were fighting against the construction of a high-rise building of 20 to 30 storeys high in the free trade zone at the former Matsushita building in SS7, Kelana Jaya.
“As there is a residential area behind the site, a multi-storey building will cause traffic congestion. We are not against development but we must make sure that it follows regulations,” he said, adding that the development was still pending approval.
Among guests who attended the open house were PKR information chief Tian Chua, Malaysian Trades Union Congress president Syed Shahir Syed Mohamud and Kelana Jaya MP Loh Gwo-Burne.
