Look through the glass window of Janine at Bangsar Shopping Complex, Kuala Lumpur and you will notice the gorgeous selection of furniture – all artfully arranged in the showroom. After closing its doors for a 7-month long makeover, the furniture store finally reopened in Aug 2009.

Janine was established in 1982 and is unique in the sense that it customises furniture for its customers. The brand carries products from Italy, Spain, China, Indonesia and Malaysia.

The showroom employs a mixture of classic contemporary design, vintage floral fabrics and wallpapers in soothing shades – perfect to cosy up the home with. The 6,000 square feet space is stylish and tastefully decorated, with much attention given to the quality of products. The store’s collection is gathered from the finest and most sophisticated European designs, which are then cleverly adapted for a modern day setting.

To provide its furniture customising service, the store works closely with a team of carpenters, sewers and upholsterers to create draperies, bedcovers, sofas and various furniture items based on its customers’ tastes. Apparently, the store’s luxurious curtain fabrics, wallpapers and selection of home accessories are adored by its customers.

The company also works with a specialist factory in Europe to supply custom-coloured fabrics. The products are vibrant and so attractive that many five-star hotels and high end buildings in Malaysia have been its customers.

Janine’s style?
Karina Merican, Janine’s managing director says, “We have developed our own distinctive style using the best international fabrics and wallpaper. We chose brands that complemented what has become of Janine’s own style, which incorporates a happy combination of style and grace whilst keeping in trend with satisfactory quality.”

“Designer Guild’s cushions are the items we sell the most as they all look so attractive in the showroom,” says Merican with a smile.

In a corner of the showroom is a splendid collection of colorful gifts and household items such as clocks, towels, cushion covers and tableware. Most of the products are from Portmeirion, an established pottery brand in England. Portmeirion’s tableware is one of the store’s best selling products.

Janine also offers interior decorating service and has staff that is available to advice customers on colour ideas and furniture layout. Apart from that, many professional interior designers shop at Janine for its selection of trimmings and curtain accessories.

With its wide array of household and furniture collections together with its customising service, Janine showroom offers a collaboration of comfortable and pleasant modern style to its customers.
