M Shafarin Ghani is a self-taught 29-year-old artist who began his professional career at the age of 16. He is also a classical music enthusiast among other things and cites Beethoven as one of his many sources of inspiration.
"Oeuvre of Movement No. 1" is Shafarin's brave move in re-imagining the undulating movements of music, alongside poetry, through the rendering of seascapes. In fact, some of the exhibited artworks are accompanied by snippets of poetry written by Shafarin himself.
Shafarin's solo exhibition comprises of 22 pieces that share a common theme of furious waters rolling up into somber skies, yet the colours he chose are decidedly energetic and spirited in contrast. He paints with sensitivity and depth, and utilises a technique called chiarascuro (an arrangement of light and dark elements) in this collection.
