Looking for a designer furniture but find it too hefty for your pocket?
Furniture showroom Timeless Design delivers the authentic look and feel of designer furniture without the pinch of having to fork out a fortune for it. Owned by Jessie Ng, this unique showroom provides easy access to well-designed furnishings traditionally found only in designer showrooms.
Having been in the furniture industry for more than 15 years, Ng knows all the ins and outs of the furnishing business. The idea first hit her in 2007 when she realised something was still amiss and lacking in the industry. With her experience and knowledge, she immediately saw the potential of reproducing designer items as quality furniture yet are affordable. She spent about a year to survey, research and do the necessary preparation before putting her plan into action.

Timeless Design - The Iconic Store vs Urban Store
Simple yet tastefully decorated, the three-storey spacious showroom spans over 4,000 sq ft in its flagship store in Jalan Putra, Kuala Lumpur. Much attention is given to the quality of products offered, says Ng, adding that the showroom’s unique furniture are carefully selected to cater to customers’ requirements. “Quality is the forte of our products,” says the 45-year old.
Aptly named the Iconic Store, it focuses solely on reproducing designer furnishing products. “The reason why I chose Kuala Lumpur to set up this showroom is because of the strategic location, high visibility and also because it’s near my house,” quips Ng.
Ng also owns another showroom in Kepong which offers a wide range of contemporary furniture. It’s called the Urban Store. “My first showroom is in Kepong, covering approximately 2,000 sq ft. In 2007, I was looking for a place to set up my showroom and I came across this double-storey commercial space in Kepong that comes with ample car parks,” explains Ng.
Quality and reliability at its best
Designed innovatively, Timeless Design's furniture are reputed for good quality and reliability. Regardless of the size and layout concept of one's residence, there will be the right furniture shape and colour to suit the various needs and lifestyle.
“We also offer furniture that are customised for the customers and they can choose their desired colour and material. There is also no condition attached with regard the quantity ordered - if the customers want only one piece, we will do it for them. Delivery time takes about two months,” Ng says.

Offering an extensive range of chairs, sofas, benches, tables, rocking chairs, clocks and also lightings, she points out that the furniture were popular items in the 1950's and 1960's. Some 85% of the furniture are imported from several countries and they comprise a good mix of renowned and unknown designers.
“Here, our products are priced affordably as we know not all our customers have high purchasing power. Therefore, we try to offer products that appeal to a more average market,” explains Ng. Prices for its products range from RM200 to RM18,000.
When it comes to selecting the right furniture maker or factories to produce her furniture, Ng says: “Experience is very important - it is the key to coming out with the right and good quality furniture. To me, quality should never be compromised." Besides visiting exhibition fairs around Asia, she also makes it a point to visit the respective factories to establish a trusting and good rapport with the owners and employees. These visits also allow her the opportunity to judge their skills and quality of workmanship.

Customised items
According to Ng, her furniture are specially customised for hotels, restaurants, residential and commercial projects. Her clientele include G Tower Hotel, PJ Trade Centre, Idaman Residence by TA Global, Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Canton-I @ The Gardens and Munchy’s office.
“Many architects also use our furniture in their designs,” says Ng.
She says clocks inspired by designer George Nelson are one of the most sellable items. "George Nelson's vision was to bring modern lasting design into common aspects of the home. Many of these clock designs were manufactured in the 1970's but they still are refreshing additions to any room in the house,“ explains Ng.
When asked about her favourite item in the showroom, Ng enthuses: “I love the Baha Kids rocking chair inspired by Charles and Ray Eames RAR. This chair is unique and sculptural. This beats the old wooden-turned-colonial rocking chair hands down. With its sleek curvaceous lines it is modern furniture design at its best.”
As for home improvement tips, Ng advises, “Comfort is very important. Therefore, when buying furniture, you should always try it out first. Don’t be shy to sit on the sofa or lie down on the bed. Also, don’t only look for cheap furniture – quality is equally important. ”
