MOSAїQUE AU 24
In 1837, the Parisian fashion house was first established by Thierry Hermès as a harness and saddlery workshop in France. With their modest beginnings and a passion for perfection, the talents of the company was recognised, winning accolades such as the first prize in their class during the 1855 Paris Exposition and later the First Class Medal at the 1867 Exposition Universelle. In 1880 the company moved to the infamous location near Palais de l’Élysée at 24 Rue Fauborg Saint-Honoré, and started the saddle and retail sales.
Today the Hermès name carries 14 different groups of products – Leather, Scarves, Ties, Men’s and Women’s Ready-to-wear, Perfumery, Watches, Diaries, Hats, Gloves, Footwear, Enamel, Jewellery, Art of Living and Tableware. Their signature scarves are hand printed using multiple silk screens and woven from the silk of mulberry moth cocoons. Leather goods produced are handcrafted and hand stitched by expert craftsmen working on one bag at a time.
In their illustrious company history, Hermès designers have outfitted the likes of American Presidents such as John F. Kennedy and wife Jackie Kennedy to even members of royalty such as the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. The legacy of Hermès carries on today with a recognised clientele that includes celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Nicole Kidman, Victoria Beckham, Elizabeth Hurley and the awe-inspiring Madonna.
A Symbol of Heritage The latest collection from the Parisian house, Mosaїque au 24 was created as homage to their roots of the historical Hermès birthplace at 24 Rue Fauborg Saint-Honoré. The collection draws inspiration from art and architecture of the era, rimming the tableware with geometric patterns and motifs and bearing the House’s signature carriage emblem.
The detailed work dedicated to the collection makes it impervious to the detachment of style and elegance. Meticulous detail in the form of tiny mosaic tiles in shades of gray and ochre splashed with touches of gold cabochons and detailing to subtly illuminate the decor were further inspirations derived from the distinctive elements of Henry Pannier’s 1926 store design with the notable sandstone mosaic floor design bearing the Greek style frieze.
A Legacy of Style The Mosaїque au 24 collection brings a subtle blend of Art Deco, Classical Greek and Contemporary design in to your homes, inciting a healthy twinge of zest from the 1930’s style of Jazz and Elegance. Designed as if they had been hand cut and set, the pattern’s intricate mosaic pieces truly capture the zeitgeist of the era.
On the whole, the Mosaїque au 24 collection brings a new colour palette to La Table Hermès and represents a symbol of heritage and a lifestyle of dreams for many, as encapsulated by the motif of the tableware – a circle of tasteful and stylish mosaics centred with the historical icon of the horse and carriage that started it all.
“Tradition, innovation and excellence dictate that we ensure the eye is always charmed by elegance, the nose delighted by suave perfumes and the skin caressed by sensuous fabrics. Our great ally in this task is time; the time for our craftsmen to realize the full potential of their materials, and for our customers to appreciate the magic of our creations.”
